The widely-used online graphic design platform, Canva, is enticing software developers with a new app marketplace, SDK, and APIs aimed at building creative, workflow, and collaboration apps for its community.

Canva, a free design and collaboration platform with 135 million monthly active users, has launched the Canva Developers Platform. This new offering includes APIs and development tools to help developers create applications for the Canva community. These applications can be marketed in the Canva App Marketplace.

Unveiled on June 14, the Canva Developers Platform features the Canva SDK, which allows developers to quickly launch applications. According to Canva, more than 11,000 developers were on the waitlist for the SDK, which has been in beta for the past nine months. The developer platform also includes:

• Canva Connect APIs: These REST APIs, set to be released later this year, will connect any app with Canva. They aim to automate processes for teams using Canva by syncing designs, assets, comments, and more, simplifying or automating workflows. The APIs will also support artificial intelligence capabilities.
• Canva Apps APIs: These APIs, part of the SDK, offer functionalities such as adding content, editing designs, authenticating users, and providing data through Canva apps.

Canva’s user base includes a diverse range of content creators, from small influencers and business owners to 85% of Fortune 500 companies like Zoom and HubSpot. The platform features a drag-and-drop interface and templates for various purposes, including presentations, documents, websites, and social media graphics. Additionally, Canva offers a library of fonts, illustrations, video footage, and audio clips.
